Syrian director says Iran’s resistance film festival unique opportunity

Syria’s prominent director Najdat Anzour has hailed Iran's Resistance International Film Festival (RIFF) as a unique opportunity to reveal the reality of the resistance amid the west’s attempts to hide the truth.

Anzour’s film ‘Blood of Palm Trees’ will be screened in the RIFF later this month.

Speaking in an interview with Iran’s IRNA news agency published on Tuesday, the filmmaker said his movie exposes the lies of the West and its allies, who try to destroy the civilizations of the region.

He added that ‘Blood of Palm Trees’ is about the looting of Syrian artifacts and destruction of the country’s historical structures in the ancient city of Palmyra in the central province of Homs, and addresses the murder of the Syrian archeologist, Khalid Al-Asaad, at the hands of the foreign-backed Daesh terrorists.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. The Damascus government says the Israeli regime and its Western and regional allies are supporting the Takfiri terrorist groups that are wreaking havoc in the country.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Anzour said the RIFF is a “real opportunity” to watch films that deal with resistance themes as most of the international festivals do not accept such movies.

Referring to the event as an international festival, the Syrian filmmaker stressed that it is a “unique opportunity” as the West tries to hide the truth and protect the foreign-sponsored terrorism.

The 16th edition of the RIFF takes place on two different dates.

Some of its sections were held on September 21-27, coinciding with the “Sacred Defense” week – an annual event to commemorate the anniversary of the start of Iraq's imposed war on Iran in the 1980s.

The other sections will be held on November 21-27, coinciding with “Basij” week.

The RIFF, one of the most prestigious international film festivals in Iran, is dedicated to productions on wars and the repercussions of armed conflicts in the world.

It also puts a spotlight on the resistance of the Palestinian people against the Zionist regime, Daesh and their terrorist attacks in the region as well as the world’s tyrants and their backing of Daesh.
